What are Biology Olympiads?

The International Biology Olympiad, or IBO, is an international-level competition for secondary school students aimed at testing their knowledge of biology. It provides students from around the world with exposure to an international standard of biology education and aims to encourage research and development in the field.

The IBO fosters a deeper understanding of biology among students and emphasizes its importance in our daily lives. By inspiring and empowering young biologists and scientists, it contributes to building a global network of talented individuals who may shape the future of biology. The Olympiad is not solely about competition; it is also about celebrating the beauty and value of biology while nurturing scientific curiosity and creativity.
The International Biology Olympiad (IBO) was initiated in 1990 and serves as a benchmark for biology education at the higher secondary school level. India began participating in the IBO in 2000 and hosted the 19th IBO in Mumbai in July 2008.
