Define the different types of equilibrium?

Ans. There are three main types of equilibrium: stable, unstable, and neutral.

  • Stable equilibrium- An object is said to be in a state of stable equilibrium if the object is displaced from its state of equilibrium due to a net force or torque from the opposite direction of displacement.
  • Unstable equilibrium- An object is in a state of unstable equilibrium if the object is displaced from its equilibrium due to net force or torque, which is applied in the same direction as the object’s displacement.

Neutral equilibrium- An object is in a state of neutral equilibrium if its equilibrium is independent of any displacements.
