In this period. the Tamilakam, or the region roughly corresponding modern Tamil Nadu and Kerala, transformed from prehistory to history. It was entirely different from the north Indian mainstream history. This period is quasi-mythical and partially historical. The bulk of the knowledge of this period of Tamilakam, between 300 BC and 300 AD, is derived from the ocean of Sangam Literature compiled in Tamil.
