Lesson 4 of 8 • 1 upvotes • 9:42mins
Stress strain curve or stress strain diagram is an important topic in almost every syllabus across the globe. The importance of stress and strain diagram is vast. The relationship between stress and strain is depicted from this curve. The validity of Hooke's law under the the elastic limit is discussed briefly in this lesson. The invalidness of the same under plastic region is also discussed in this lesson. Various points on stress and strain diagram like elastic limit (El), proportionality limit(Pl), yield stress(yield point) and ultimate tensile strength point are discussed briefly in this lesson. Different phases of material deformation when subjected to tensile testing is discussed with proper images and explanations. The different stages of deformation are elastic region, uniform strain, Necking and finally fracture of specimen. The crack propagation while neckoing and the end effect of this cracking is also discussed in this lesson.
