The importance of physical properties is as much important as mechanical properties when it comes to material selection and manufacturing. Various physical properties will be affecting the aesthetics and ergonomic considerations of materials. These considerations are to be made with reference to physical properties. The importance of these physical properties will be reviewed in this lesson. Machining capabilities for different materials is different depending upon the physical properties. Indirectly, physical properties play an important role in determining the application of material along side with mechanical properties. Different physical properties like density, melting point and boiling point of material plays an important role in determining the abilities of the material to change its phase. Different other physical properties like thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance explains the application of different materials in different situation.
