  3. Longest chain rule:- Select the longest continuous chain of carbon atoms which may or may not be horizontal. This is called parent chain or main chain, and other carbon chains attached to it are known as side chain 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 C-C-C-C-C-0-C C-C-C-C-C-C-C Straight parent chain of C, with three side chains (Right) Zig-zag parent chain of C, with only one side chain (Wrong)
