ENGINE One form of energy Other useful forms of energy ENGINE . Heat engines convert the chemical energy of fuel into heat energy and subsequently this heat energy is converted intomechanical energy (power)
TYPES OF ENGINE Engines External Internal Combustion Combustion In external combustion engines, the product of combustion transfer heat to working fluids whereas in internal combustion engines the products of combustion produces power directly in the same cylinder.
ADVANTAGES OF I C ENGINE . Mechanical Simplicity . Low Initial Cost due to absence of boiler, condenser, etc . Lower weightto power ratio . Higher Efficiency
ENGINE NOMENCLATURE Top Dead Centre or Inner Dead Centre: It is the dead centre when the piston is farthest from crank shaft (It is equal to inner dead centre in horizontal engines) . Bottom Dead Centre or Outer Dead Centre: It is the dead centre when the piston is nearest to crank shaft (It is similar to outer dead centre in horizontal engines Stroke Length The distance between two dead centre is known as stroke length Clearance Volume: It is the volume of the cylinder when the piston is at top dead centre or inner dead centre.
InletAhaust Valve Valve .Clearance Ratio or Compression Ratio (r): It is the ratio of volume before compression to the volume after compression Stroke Vokume Vs 8DC Connecting Rod Vs = Swept Volume Vc = Clearance Volume D = Bore, L = Stroke Crank
Cleared UPSC ESE twice with Rank 63 and 90 in mechanical engg. Got 99 percentile in GATE. Cracked ONGC, BHEL,ISRO, SAIL, GAIL successfully
