Geographical Discoveries of the 15th and 16th centuries were important milestones towards an understanding of the world as we perceive it today. New continents such as America were discovered and new trade routes with the East were established which firmly footed direct trade relations between Europe and the rest of the world. These discoveries and the resources of the new lands created the greed to be able to control them and one can see the cropping up of European colonies in these regions.
