This lesson provides an overview of various properties like physical, chemical, mechanical and manufacturing. The effect of these properties in determining the optimum material for a specific application is also discussed in this lesson. Various points to be remembered during material selection process is explained briefly. A short description about hot working process and cold working process is discussed along with its recrystallization temperature. Effect of manufacturing properties and economical value of the component is discussed. Material selection criteria for die casting and welding is also discussed in this lesson. Various properties like ductility and strength are discussed and also the effectiveness of these properties is differentiated when the same metal is hot worked and cold worked.
