Statement 1 is correct: Genetic therapies aim to treat or cure conditions by correcting problems in DNA. Gene transfer approaches restore the missing function of a faulty or missing gene by adding a new gene to affected cells.
Statement 2 is correct: The current delivery systems available for genetic medicines include viral vectors and lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). Modified viruses like lentivirus, herpes simplex virus, retrovirus, and adeno-associated virus have been extensively employed as carriers for gene transfer, while lipid nanoparticles have also become a key tool in delivering genetic material to target cells.
Statement 3 is not correct: Genetic medicines do not alter the entire DNA sequence. Gene therapy involves the correction of altered (mutated) genes or site-specific modifications that target therapeutic treatment.
