Notes on State Food Safety Index 2020-21

As per the direction of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India releases data called the Food safety Index on the yearly basis. Recently they have released the date of 2020-2021. Here many states have shown up at the top of the index.  Gujarat State topped in Food Safety Index 2021 this was surprising for many but some, it was expected. The Health minister was also impressed with the date this time. This Safety index has ranked states on 5 parameters which involve: Institutional data and human resources, food testing facility, compliance, capacity building and training along with consumer empowerment.

Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are the toppers of this large state index.

With 20% Weightage on an Institutional Data and Human Resources

A complete analysis of data and size is involved in it where Gujarat State topped in Food Safety Index 2021. The parameter is completely based on how much the human resources are involved in the health safety like how many officers are there for the food safety, designated officers, appellate tribunals and adjudications facilities. It was complete monitoring and data have shown tight results as well.

30% Weightage to the Compliance

This parameter is important here authorities will measure all the food-related business licensing and registration as per the population and size of union territories and states. A complete analysis related to the license is involved here. Expired licenses and the issue date of it will be in the parameter range. 

And also there will be a complete inspection of the food safety-related samples. Complete testing of food and also the monitoring of the high risk involving business will be compared and then there will be grading as per that. And in this Gujarat State topped in Food Safety Index 2021 easily.

20% Weightage for Food Testing

The reason Gujarat State topped in Food Safety Index 2021 is that there everyone has got their business and food mostly tested. Here this parameter involves the complete testing of infrastructure and trained human resources which are available in the states. 

A complete lab testing is involved here and as per manpower, the lab score will be on the parameter. The better the test result monitoring the better the result will be so this involves how many businesses have taken their food to the InFoLNet for the testing of their food as well which will give better reliance on their food.

10% Weightage to the Capacity Building and Training

Here the weightage is less because India is a developing country and literacy training is not easy to get for them. So here in this parameter, you will find that businesses who are having regular staff training and lab personnel. 

The amount of training that was held under Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) is being monitored. And Mansukh Mandaviya releases food safety India just to show the food safety more than this section.

20% Consumer Empowerment

Here the analysis of food is measured and how people are consuming the food is measured. Like hygiene of restaurants, BHOG participation, RUCO, how clean the city’s Food hubs are etc. these all come in the parameter.  Now if you look at this Gujarat State topped in Food Safety Index 2021 has got one of the best grades already and here the Gujarat state has created consumer awareness which was taken into consideration by the data analysis.

After the release of this State Food Safety Index 2020 list, it has been confirmed that after Gujarat State topped in Food Safety Index 2021 the state is on the record-breaking streak soon where it will be topped for the 3rd consecutive time. In 2020 too Gujarat has topped the tables and now again in 2021 they have topped the table. The food department and many states’ eyes will be on either betterment of food or the Gujarat food safety.
