An economy is a man-made system that is created or modified to meet the needs of society. There are 3 types of economic systems, namely mixed economy, capitalist economy, and socialistic economy.
Here are some general characteristics of an economy:
The capitalist, or free enterprise, economy is the most traditional type. In this type, the government intervenes as little as possible in economic activities.

In socialist or centrally-planned economies, the government owns and controls all productive resources for the benefit of society as a whole. The decisions are made by the central planning authority.
