THE MOON

VARIOUS PLANETS AND SATELLITES IN THE SOLAR SYSTEM-THE MOON

Table of Content
  •

The term moon formed from the debris of a collision between infant earth and a planet that is roughly the size of mars. The Moon was born when the wandering plane crashed into the young earth, it was observed that huge amounts of material were thrown from space that came together to form the Moon. The researcher has found that earth is the only planet in the solar system that was formed around “4.5 billion years ago”, it was also found that many planets and “Protoplanet” have overlapped and unstable orbits that brought them through collision.

What is the Moon

The moon is defined as the celestial body that makes an orbit around the planet that includes all the eight major planets, “dwarf planet”, and “minor planet”. It is referred to as the earth’s natural satellite that revolves around it at an average distance of roughly 385,000 kilometers, the diameter of just 3500 kilometers (about 2,160 miles) that differentiates it from other astronomical bodies orbiting another body. It is the fifth-largest moon in the solar system. The presence of the moon helps to detect the climate of the Earth. Galileo was the first person who observed the moon in 1609 and “Apollo 11” landing in 1969.

The first moon that was detected outside the earth was the Galilean moons of Jupiter named and discovered after Galileo Galilei. This planet has 63 different kinds of moons.

Is life present on the Moon?

The northern hemisphere has marked different lunar seas that make the man on the moon face. It is the assumption that man is there on the moon. The moon is made of lunar seas that highlight the earth as dark and light patches. The man in the moon’s face is the assumption of the moon’s features as other cultures have seen different shapes of the lunar surface.

The gravity in the Moon

The surface of the moon’s gravity is weaker as it is less massive than Earth. The surface of the body is proportional to its mass, but it is inversely proportional to the square of the radius. The gravity is experienced in the moon as the moon is very smaller and has less mass than the earth; the gravitational pull on the surface of the moon is lower as compared to earth. NASA has measured the “Bouguer” value for the gravity to determine whether the moon is having gravity or not. The “Bouguer ” gravity field is the attraction of the surface if the topography is removed. That represents the mass anomalies around the moon that are required to find the thickness crust or mantle density.

The phases of Moon

The different phases of the moon that are the eight phases are as follows:

New: the new moon occurs when the moon is on the same side of the earth as the sun so it cannot see as the moon’s shadow side is pointing towards the earth.

Waxing Crescent: The intermediate phase of the moon starts after the new moon and lasts until the First quarter. In this, the light of the moon increases from 0.1% to 49.9%. Though it is not the major phase, it still lasts up to 21.6% of the lunar month. This phase of the moon starts after the new moon and lasts up to the first quarter.

First Quarter: This phase of the moon is the primary phase when the half phase of the moon is lit up. To detect this phase of whether it is right or left depends on where we are looking from the earth.

Waxing Gibbous: This phase of the moon arises when the lit-up part grows from 50.1% to 99.9%. This phase of the moon starts after the “First quarter Moon” and lasts till “Full moon”. It is clearly seen that waxing means that the moon is getting bigger.

Full moon: It is the most striking phase when the entire face of the moon is lit up, in this phase, the sun; the moon aligned on the opposite side of the earth, and 100% of the moon’s face is eliminated from the sun.

Waning Gibbous: This phase of the moon is seeing when the lit-up part of the moon shrinks from 99.9% to 50.1%. This phase starts just after the full moon and lasts until the third quarter moon. Waning means shrinking and getting smaller by the time.

Third quarter: This face of the moon is when the opposite half of the moon is illuminated compared to the First Quarter. The third-quarter moon is the last of the four primary phase moons.

Waning Crescent: This phase of the moon is lit up by a part of the moon that is decreasing from 49.9% to 0.1%. This phase lasts from the third quarter moon that disappears from the view at a new moon.

Conclusion

The whole discussion is made on the moon, when is the moon found, is their life present in the moon, the different pages of the moon that are new moon, waxing crescent and many other faces are there to explain the different format of the moon occurrence. The gravity of the moon is discussed in this topic. The discussion helped to find the data related to the moon.
