Post Independence Development

India got independence from the rule of the Britishers in 1947 and right after the independence the great minds of India started planning reformation and bringing development into the country.

Right after India got independence from the vicious rule of Britishers, the political leadership started planning on the reformation and planning to bring development into the country. If we see in a series, then it is quite noticeable that since independence till now India has developed a lot with the development the country has seen a lot of ups and downs.  Though immediately after independence the political leaders started important reformation processes like making a constitution, making a five-year plan, reorganizing states, choosing someone as the Prime Minister of India, etc. Independent India was a broken, shattered economy that had an immense amount of poverty and unthinkable illiteracy within the country. The biggest challenge for all the political leaders and The Prime Minister of India was to implement democracy in a country like India which had only 10-12% population literate and the rest were illiterate. However, with time slowly India started taking its step toward becoming a developing nation, today India indeed is a developing nation. Starting from technology to education India has developed a lot over these years. Over the years after independence, a lot of change in power has been in the country. 

The Post-Independence Development in India 

This part will majorly talk about the post-independence development in India. Usually, the post-independence development of the country was divided into several parts. Implementation of a five-year plan in the country as a result of post-independence development in India. However, the five-year plan made by the planning commission was considered a failure for the country and it did not work well. According to some political and economic researchers, the economic development of India after independence was divided into two segments. Just after the independence, the country faced a large amount of economic crisis due to some wrong economic policies. After that, some new economic policies came to save India from the economic crisis. The policies were based on privatization and liberalization. After a few years of independence, India had started establishing major development in the service sector of the country by incorporating new technologies and especially by introducing computers in the country. The introduction and utilization of computers were considered one of the major developments of India after its Independence.  Not only this the infrastructure of the country had changed since then, new watts of roads have been constructed to link up cities and states many urban sectors have been developed, the education sector had changed, the healthcare sector had changed, children’s stating going to schools just after independence was also considered a major post-independence development in India. Since then, the illiteracy rate has decreased as compared to the rate in pre-independence times. People were getting free treatments at government hospitals. Not only this, but a few scientific developments have also taken place after independence such as the ‘Parmanu’ Bomb was also a scientific development in India after Independence.  

Changes in the Political System of India 

The political system and the political leaders have been changed a couple of times since independence. Just like the Indian economy, Indian politics also faced a couple of problems in the post-independence period. It was clear in the Indian constitution that India will be a secular, democratic, sovereign nation.  The political system of India has changed a lot over the years. In the 1960s the government of India was busy with the integration of princely states, making the Indian constitution, and many more things. The democratic module of the country has also changed, now political parties hold elections and anyone political party can win the election. The Indian government had three main organs: the legislature, the executive, and the parliament.  Previously India was unicameral but now India is bicameral and it has two houses the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. During 1997-99 a new system in the Indian government in the name of a coalition government.  India has seen a lot of changes in power over the years.

This article was a brief on post-independence development. The article briefly shows the economic, social, and political development that took place after India got Independence in the year 1947. The article showed the changes in the power and political system of India that have taken place over the years. It has been 75 years since India got independence. Now India developed a lot from a technological, social, and political perspective but initially when India got independence it faced a lot of problems to encourage development in the country.
