2nd Edition of Water Innovation Challenges

In conjunction with the Indo-Danish Bi Green Strategic Alliance, NITI Aayog, Atal Innovation Mission, and the Royal Consulate of Denmark in India jointly announced the second version of water innovation challenges on December 13, 2021, to solve world water concerns. Under the auspices of the Danish Embassy of India and also the Denmark Technical University, the Atal innovation mission objective freshwater challenge is being implemented (DTU).

Green Strategic Partnership

  • After a virtual meeting hosted by both national leaders, India and Denmark signed a new generation Green Strategic Partnership in September 2020.
  • Denmark and India have lofty climate targets and are gradually incorporating increasingly sustainable techniques.
  • The Green Strategic Partnership is an excellent framework because it stresses how global cooperation may speed the green transition and achieve global objectives.
  • The Partnership aims to strengthen economic relations, promote green growth, and collaborate on global issues such as global warming. Green growth is a word used to define a financial growth trajectory based on ecological sustainability.
  • Coping with the Covid-19 epidemic and cooperating on conserving water and water loss are other important aspects of the relationship.
  • It has been planned to establish India-Denmark energy farms in places with many Danish enterprises and an India-Denmark skills centre to educate Indian people.

Atal Innovation Mission’s objective

The water innovation projects aim to discover new and next-generation solutions to tackle specified difficulties in conjunction with commercial and public partnerships. The program will bring together young people from top colleges around the country to help them develop their abilities and use their technical disciplines and innovative potential. The victors of the challenge will be invited to present India there at International Water Conference in 2022. The Danish Ministry in India with Denmark Technical University (DTU) would also prepare Indian applicants for the DTU-hosted International Future Generation Water Action (NGWA) program.

In conjunction with business and public partnerships, the project strives to discover creative and next-generation ideas in the water industry to improve specified concerns. Promising youngsters from prominent institutions and innovation centres around the country will be included in the program, which will help them develop their abilities and use their technological skills and innovative potential.

The water industry is the most in need of innovation, particularly in the current situation, when numerous developing nations, like India, are experiencing a water shortage in supply and accessibility. The year before, ten innovation groups were chosen for such a water innovation challenge, so they were assisted in developing their solutions through partners. The teams collaborated with their counterparts from five nations and competed in the finale in May 2021. Five of the ten teams took home six prizes at the international finals.  

Atal innovation mission objective is crucial for India since it suffers major water difficulties, which has become one of the greatest pressing policy concerns in recent years. Depleting underground water supplies, lack of safe drinking water, moisture loss owing to poor sewage systems, access to water, and unprocessed wastewater contaminating India’s major waterways are all part of the problem.

Various Challenge Areas

Academic and startup groups were asked to propose their concepts in the very next problem categories as members of the India challenge:

  • Alternatives for digital water management
  • Tracking and repair of leaks in the public water supply
  • Control of wastewater in rural areas and urban areas
  • Collecting rainwater from rural and urban areas
  • Drinking water that is both safe & long-lasting.

Next Generation Water Action Program

Future Generation Water Movement is a global program that brings together more than 100 young people from top colleges and early-stage companies.

  • Students in 2021 featured the future generation of water experts from Africa, Kenya, Peru, S. Korea, India, and Denmark.
  • They generated creative solutions to tackle the world’s most serious sustainable water concerns by combining their different experiences and expertise.
