India is a developing country which is yet to grow in many sectors but it has experienced growth and development when it comes to milk production. It is the largest producer of milk globally and has been growing in that aspect everyday. There are many reasons behind that one being the village or agriculture based lifestyle followed by people where dairy is a regular practice. India is a country of villages and it is very easy to find a cow or a buffalo in most of the households as people have the habit of consuming milk on a daily basis. This regular practice was revolutionised in the country by Amul which created a connectivity between these people and resulted in a livelihood out of it. Earlier the people of rural India did not have any other livelihood except agriculture but with the scope of growth in the dairy sector, they adopted it and now earn well out of it. Looking at all of this, the government of India and amul collaborated to launch the dairy sahakar scheme in order to promote the growth of people who are involved in the primary sector in the country. This article is going to focus on this scheme and amul which brought the revolution of livelihood out of milk.
Dairy Sahakar Scheme
It was on the occasion of amul’s 75th anniversary dated 31st, october, 2021, when the dairy sahakar scheme was launched by home minister Amit shah who also happens to be the minister of cooperation which works for the development of primary sector as well such as dairy farming and animal husbandry. This scheme is a part of the major revolution brought by the Indian government in the name of atma nirbhar bharat which is all about making the country self-reliant and resulting in less imports and more use of domestic goods. The ultimate motive of this scheme is to double the income of all the farmers and producers involved in dairy farming and animal husbandry. There were various dignitaries present at the occasion for the launch of this scheme such as the union minister for fisheries, animal husbandry, chief minister of gujarat and many others.Â
The unit of government which is going to work with amul in this is the NSDC which is under the ministry of cooperation headed by the home minister Amit shah. The Motto of this project is ‘’cooperation to prosperity’’. The total amount to be invested towards this project from the Indian government is 5,000 crore INR. The financial support is going to be extended to eligible cooperatives listed under the category of bovine development, Milk procurement, processing, exports of dairy products, fishery, animal husbandry, e.t.c. It should be noted that finance is not just for the purpose of increasing production but it is going to be used for every aspect of business. It can ultimately result in creating an overall environment of growth in every aspect and not just get limited till production. There are many more steps which need to be taken care of before releasing these products in the market such as packaging, marketing, taking care of hygiene and much more. All this will be taken care of under this scheme. The scheme will also act like an extension of the earlier steps taken by the government for the development of this sector and work in harmony with them to strengthen the primary sector.Â
Amul
In order to understand the significance of the dairy sahakar scheme and the reason behind its launch on the 75th foundation day of amul, it is important to know its contribution to the country. Amul was established in 1946 and the carrier of white revolution in India which has made India the largest producer of milk. It is a cooperative owned by over 35 lakh milk producers and was started from gujrat. Its headquarters are based at anand, gujrat and as of today, it is a state government cooperative. Its founder was Tribhuvan Das who worked under the guidance of Sardar vallabhbhai patel and built the foundation of Amul. Later on, Dr. Verghese Kurein was hired to expand the cooperative to a commercial scale and the result is before everyone’s eye. Amul has been ever since its inception and the reason is its loyalty towards the dairy farmers and its sole motive of contributing towards the growth of India and taking dairy farming to another level in the country.Â
Conclusion
The dairy sahakar scheme was launched in 2021 on the occasion of amul’s 75th foundation day and is a government scheme developing the people of primary sector such as dairy farmers, animal husbandry and many other businesses like this. It is an extension to the old schemes which are already in action with the motive of increasing the income of farmers by two fold. The major scope of government is to make the setor completely self-reliant by providing every possible financial support from the level of production to marketing and selling resulting in an increase in income and self-reliance.
