National Industrial Corridor

National Industrial Corridor is a development programme whose aim is to develop futuristic industrial cities in India. These cities compete with the best manufacturing and investment destinations worldwide.

National Industrial corridor is a development programme that develops futuristic industrial cities to compete with manufacturing and investment destinations. This development will create employment opportunities too and will help in economic growth. Around 11 Industrial Corridors are there in India. Some National Industrial corridors are the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor, Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor etc. Industrial Corridors provide world-class infrastructure. It helps in the high-speed transportation networks. It helps in reducing the production cost that improves logistics cost making of Indian products in domestic and foreign markets. 

National Industrial Corridor

National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust were established in the year 2017. It is an apex body under the administrative control of the Department of industrial policy and Promotion for coordination and unified development. It supports project development activity, approval and sanction of the project. It conducts government funds, ensuring that different corridors are well planned and implemented. Its main objective is to increase overall manufacturing, enhance economic prosperity and enhance global trading. The challenges of Industrial corridor development were land acquisition, delays in clearance of projects and the policies.

National Industrial Corridor and Phases 

The National Industrial Corridor will help create a manufacturing cluster and other industries where firms focus on their core competence areas. Many people will find jobs near their homes. The programmes like Make in India get a push from industries to attract large-scale foreign investments that lead to economic growth. Industrial Corridor constructed in such areas where pre-existing infrastructures like ports, highways and railroads are there. Ports with state of the art handling equipment and modern airports. Complementary townships or real estate. Different knowledge parks that will focus on catering to Industrial needs. Around 11 Industrial Corridors are there in India. Some National Industrial corridors are the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor, Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, Hyderabad Nagpur Industrial Corridor etc. The overall budget was sanctioned for the programme of Rs 20,084 crore. These 11 corridor projects are to be developed in 4 phases. The phase1 is the approval of the projects, Phase 2 Projects in the advanced stage of planning and implementation must be initiated by 2021, Phase 3 Projects are under development and implementation, which is likely to be initiated by 2023 and Phase 4 Projects under conceptualisation and implementation which is likely to be initiated by 2024.

Industrial Corridors

Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor or DMIC is a project based on manufacturing world-class infrastructure. This project creates smart, sustainable Industrial cities with high speed and high capacity to connect the Dedicated Freight Corridor to reduce the logistic costs. For the first time, geographical planning was integrated with digital planning with the backbone of Information & Communication Technology that created smart cities for the future.

Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor covers three states Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. These regions are proposed to be self-sustained nodes with world-class infrastructure. Road and rail connectivity for the movement and form of ports and logistic hubs. It served with reliable power, social infrastructure and a global environment for setting the business. 

Amritsar Kolkata Industrial corridor covers seven states Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. This corridor optimises the present economic and employment potential. Particular investments in the manufacturing, agro-processing,export-oriented units and services

Bengaluru Mumbai Industrial corridor has influenced areas of the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra. This corridor facilitates the development of well planned, world-class sustainable connectivity that benefits innovation, job creation, manufacturing and resource security. It strengthens the local manufacturing, which results in regional development.

Like the above Industrial corridors, some corridors benefit manufacturing, innovation, job creation, and resource security. The main objective is to enhance India’s competitiveness in manufacturing with world-class infrastructure and reduce logistic costs. The Industrial Corridor programme will help to chase the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
