IAS Salary After 7th Pay Commission

On June 29, 2016, the Cabinet adopted the 7th Pay Commission’s report. Consolidated Pay has reportedly taken the place of the former system of Pay Grades, according to the 7th Pay Commission. 

  • The junior-level IAS officers’ basic pay has increased from Rs. 21,000/- to Rs. 56,100/-. 
  • Extra benefits, including the Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Travel Allowance, would be given to selected candidates (TA). 
  • Salary increases will occur annually and with promotions. 
  • The IAS Officer who earns the highest remuneration, Rs 2,50,000, is a Cabinet Secretary. However, it is anticipated that this value will rise with time.

The pay rate offered for the various posts is one of the main draws for applicants to the UPSC Exam. All IAS officers begin with the same starting salary, which rises as they gain experience and receive promotions.

IAS Salary Perks

House Rent Allowance (HRA): HRA varies by city type. HRA will be 24% for officers working in 8 X category cities. Employees deployed to Y category locations will receive an HRA value of 16%, while employees sent to Z category cities would receive an HRA value of 8%. However, HRA will only be given to those who haven’t used official housing.

Dearness Allowance: A portion of the payment that is adjusted every six months (in January and July of each year) based on the inflation index is called the Dearness Allowance (DA) (CPI). The DA can reach up to 125% because it excludes the Transport Allowance.

Employees receive travel allowances (TA) to help with related costs.

Service Quarter: In addition to their residence in the state capital, IAS officers are given a service quarter where they are posted.

Office vehicles: Each IAS official will receive one to three cars and a driver or chauffeur.

Security: Three house guards and two bodyguards provide security. STF commandos can also be made available in the event of a threat. Furthermore, the entire police force is open to the IAS Officer if they are appointed District Magistrate or Commissioner. They are free to construct their security cover however they see fit.

Electricity Bills: They are either totally free or significantly subsidised for their official housing.

Phone Bills: Officers give officers three BSNL SIM cards with free talk time, SMS, and internet. Additionally, they have access to a free broadband connection and a BSNL landline at home.

Travel Allowances: For official and casual trips to several states, IAS officers receive discounted lodging at circuit homes, government bungalows, or rest houses. The IAS officer would be given accommodations in the appropriate State Bhavan with all amenities when visiting New Delhi.

Household Staff: IAS officers also receive private housekeepers to handle the daily tasks at their official residence or service quarter.

Study leave: After nine years of service, officers are also eligible to take a 2-4 year study break.

Unofficial Benefits: IAS officers are also given complimentary tickets and enter credentials to all crucial events in the district or zone under their control, including parties, concerts, cricket games, and other activities.

Benefits after Retirement: IAS officers are eligible for a lifelong pension and other benefits. In case of sudden death, the same benefits are passed on to their wives.

Official Housing: IAS Officers are given a duplex home in the state capital’s (VVIP) restricted area, where they are posted. However, candidates who obtain official housing won’t be given HRA.
