Just like other committees, the Goiporia Committee is also an especially important committee that looks after the complaints and issues faced by customers coming to the bank. The Goiporia Committee

The Goiporia committee was made to help in the improvement of the various levels of customer service in different banks in the country. This committee has made several recommendations for all the banks across India and said to keep a customer complaint book so that the issues that the customers used to face can be recorded properly, and the proper actions about those problems.

The Goiporia Committee was set up in 1990 by M.N. Goiporia. He has also served as the 14th chairperson of the SBI (State Bank of India). Although, he joined as a probationary officer and has also served in many distinct roles in the State Bank of India, till he became the Chairman of the bank in the year 1990.

When there was a fallout in the year 1992, in the Indian stock market scam, the Indian Government asked him to leave his position as the chairperson of the State Bank of India. He was later replaced by Dipankar Basu (New Chairman of the State Bank of India).

M.N. Goiporia has served as a Chairman of the Goiporia Committee, wherein he had made several crucial recommendations to bring change in the customer services of India in different banks, and these be improved efficiently. Due to the scam that took place in 1992, M.N. Goiporia had played an excessively significant role in that scam which is why there were several allegations made against him during his period of being a chairperson. 

Recommendations of the Goiporia Committee

The committee was formed in the year 1990, committee words were set up by the RBI (Reserve Bank of India). The Goiporia Committee reports, in which it said that there are many recommendations given by the committee for the improvement of the customer services in the banks across the country. So that there is no trouble for the customers and the employees too. Some of the important recommendations are given below:

• The commencement of work of the employees will always be 15 minutes before the general business hours so that banks can be made operational for the customers and there is no waste of time
• It is compulsory to address all the customers who come before dear closing hours inside the bank
• Employees should ensure that counters during business hours and uninterrupted services are being provided to the customers that come into the bank
• There is specific guidance given in the bank that there must be a counter of ‘Enquiry’, or ‘May I help You’ so that if the person coming to the bank is confused, then they can go today at the counter and ask for the help they are looking for
• The counter should be near the entry of the banking office
• There were several recommendations about the passbooks/statements about the savings account:

1. The customer must be educated so that they keep their passbooks updated regularly.
2. There should be an education drive launched for the customers so that the advantages of keeping the passbook updated should be got into focus.

• Every employee should wear their identity batches which should have their name and photograph properly displayed so that it is better for the customers to rapport with the officials
• There should be induction training given to the recruits, after the training process the banks should distribute them to their desired positions at once
