LOGO Full Form

The word Abbreviation are the short forms of phrase or words which is generally written for having a crisp and clear meaning of a sentence which also saves a lot of time while writing about that particular abbreviation. For example if an article is about HDD which is the abbreviation of Hard Disk Drive, writing Hard Disk Drive will be more time consuming. Therefore, instead of writing the full forms short forms are written as abbreviations. The particular study is therefore engaged in discussing some of the abbreviations in Graphics oriented language. 

APU:

It is the abbreviation of “Audio Processing Unit” which is an audio accelerator used to enhance performances of a personal computer by using the processing power of audio signals. It is the central processor of a sound card which is used for multiple purposes like audio compression and decompression. APU is also the abbreviation of “Accelerated Processing Unit” which is a series of processors which consist of a GPU (Graphical Processing Unit) and CPU (Central Processing Unit). Presently, most PCs nowadays use an APU in the motherboard which eliminates the need of a dedicated graphics card. 

SSD:

“Solid State Drive” or SSD is a storage device which is used in computers and laptops as a primary or secondary storage drive (FullForm.in, n.d.). They are the alternatives of HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and are pretty small in size and have a fast data transfer speed. SSD also stands for “Single Sided Disk” which is a type of disk that only uses one side to record data. 

AGP:

It stands for “Accelerated Graphics Port” is an advanced port which has been designed for 3D accelerators and video cards; it helps the graphics controller to access system memory. The speed of an AGP is 66 MHz and is generally 32-bits wide. 

CGI:

CGI is the abbreviation of “Common Gateway Interface” is an interface which is used by web servers to execute external programs which are commonly written in scripting languages known as CGI script. by using a CGI, a web server can receive data from any application. It is one of the oldest online technologies which is still in use (Computerhope, 2017). Apart from that CGI also stands for “Computer Generator Imagery” which basically are the digitally created images for televisions and films. In many films and TV series visual effects are added to make it more realistic and eye pleasing, and CGI is one of the parts of those visual effects. 

GIF:

GIF is the abbreviation of “Graphics Interchange Format” is a bitmap image format which is generally a kind of animated image of smaller sizes. GIFs are the soundless videos or loop of images that play continuously. GIFs are very popular nowadays where they are used in blogs and social media for entertainment purposes and as a message too. 

GDI:

It stands for “Graphics Device Interface”. It is the component of Microsoft Windows which is used to represent graphical objects by output devices like monitors and printers.

GPU:

The term GPU is the abbreviation of “Graphics processing unit” is new technology in computing which is beneficial for both personal and business computing. It is used in a variety of applications especially for video rendering and gaming which gives a smooth experience in mobile and PC gaming and is an advanced version of CPU. Some of the examples of popular GPUs used in computers are “RTX 30-series”, “GTX 16-series” and “GTX 10-series” etc. 

LILO:

LILO stands for “Last in Last Out” which is most common abbreviation in computing languages that mean the data last received for processing will be the to be out after proceeds, LILO is also the abbreviation of “Linux Loader” is a bootloader which helps an operating system to load into memory. Without a boot loader it is not possible for a computer to load its operating system to memory. Linux loader is used in computers that run on Linux based operating systems. 

MMC:

MMC stands for “Multimedia Card” which is a memory card which uses flash memory which makes the storage portable to be used on different devices. For example, it can be used in smartphones, computers, car navigation systems etc. MMC is also the abbreviation of “Microsoft Management Console” which is a component of Microsoft that provides administrators with an interface to monitor or configure the system.

In conclusion it can be said that abbreviations are quite useful when writing about an article on a particular phrase or word that has an extended form or meaning. It saves a lot of time and space. The present study discussed some of the most common abbreviations which are being used in graphics and language related to technologies. Some of the abbreviations discussed in the study have more than one meaning and both have been described as both applicable in their respective context.
