What is a magnetic moment?

Ans : The term magnetic moment typically refers to a system’s magnetic dipole moment, which is a part of the magnetic moment that can be represented by an equivalent magnetic dipole: a magnetic North and South poles separated by a very small distance. For small enough magnets or long enough distances, the magnetic dipole component is sufficient. Higher-order terms (such as the magnetic quadrupole moment) may be required in addition to the dipole moment for extended objects.
