because people of Punjab always fought against mugals and proclaiming Bahadur Shah made them angry. There hatred against mughals was much wide than that for Britishers.

because they were loyalist. you have to understand that there was no nationalism back then. they were Punjabis and not Indians. they had nothing to do with revolt. they were doing job. they had no reason to mutiny. more interested in their livelihood. hate or no hate cant say but u can read about what Punjabis may have felt about this when u read about ghadar movement. all those slogans "angrezi sarkar ka katha chitha"

  2. CAUSES: POLITICAL EIC greed for power, land and resources was clear to many native princely states. They back-stabbed many of them during wars, siding with the side which served their interests the best and charging extreme prices for their war services and losses > This planted doubts in the mind of ruling princely states Policies such as: Doctrine of subsidiary alliance, introduced by Lord Wellesley Doctrine of Lapse by Lord Dalhousie prevented the inheritance and denied the right to succession

  3. CAUSES: POLITICAL Doctrine of Lapse by Lord Dalhousie. The following states were annexed Satara (1848) Jaitpur, Sambhalpur (1849) Bagat (1850) Udaipur (1852) Jhansi (1853) Nagpur (1854) Avadh was annexed into the British East India territories on grounds of Alleged misgovernnent > Punjab (1849) and Lower Burma/Pegu/Bago (1852) Annexation through war

  4. CAUSES: POLITICAL Prince Fakhruddin of Delhi died in 1856: Next prince was stripped of royal title and traditional Mughal dwelling forts. It was really an embarrassing situation for mighty Mughals Groups like Artists, Singers, Dancers, Maulvis, Pundits etc. which were dependent on Aristocracy, were also affected Administrative Causes: Massive corruption, especially at lower level in police, courts, bureaucracy > Earlier king or the ruler was always one among the people, there was some sense of belongingness, now the EIC rule was completely alien

  6. CAUSES: PARALLEL EVENTS First Afghan war (1839-1842) Punjab wars: > First Anglo-Sikh War (1845-46) First Anglo-Sikh War > First Anglo-Sikh War (1848-49) Crimean Wars (1853-56) Santhal Uprisings (1855-56) British suffered heavy losses (not defeat) in them

  7. CAUSES: ECONOMIC > Drain of wealth Land revenue system (PSS, M, R etc.) were extremely exploitative Extreme tasaion Mnyng very igh inerest rares s Emergence ofnew Thaditional Indian economy was complely destoyed Ioney lending at very high interest landlordism - Peasants furious > Traditional Indian economy was completely destroyed > Due to industrial revolution and exploitative British policies, handicrafts industries were dealt a mortal blow. Artisans were left unemployed, looking for jobs in agricultural sector, which just weren't there. >Import of manufactured goods from British India at dirt cheap prices. >Zamindars/Taluqdars/Landed Aristocracy: Their land was seized, their authority was questioned, loss of status in the eyes of feudal public, very furious and angry

  8. CAUSES: SOCIO-RELIGIOUS Christian Missionaries: official-missionary nexus, allowed to preach openly Reforms were seen as interference in the thousands of year old traditions and customs Bengal Sati Regulation, 1829 Governor-General Lord William Bentinck: Abolition of Sati Hindu Widows' Remarriage Act, 1856: Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Promotion of Women Education: Savitribai and Jyotiba Phule Lex Loci Act/Religious Disability Act, 1856: Made it easy to convert into Christianity. Right to inherit ancestral property was maintained even after religious conversion Introduction of taxation of lands of mosques and temples

  9. CAUSES: ISSUES WITH SEPOYS Restrictions on wearing marks (which identifies one's sect or caste) Proselytising rumours (to christianity) > Lord Canning: General Service Enlistment Act, 1856 - Serve "anywhere" as the need be. For religious Hindus, crossing sea-loss of caste (At that time) Less pay, discrimination in promotions, racism, inferiority complex Annexation of Awadh Bone dust in Atta Enfield Rifle : Greased cartridges, needed to bit off before usage rumour laced with pig and beef fat > Post office Act 1854 by Dalhousie: Abolished privilege of free postage for sepoys

  10. CAUSES: ISSUES WITH SEPOYS Sepoy = Peasant in uniform = Heart till beats for rural area >75,000 personnel were from Awadh, every farmer family had one person serving in the army! Lands of Awadhi landlords were snatched It was annexed +extreme > It was annexed extreme taxation painful land revenue system etc. revenue system etc.
