Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq became the Delhi Sultan in 1320. Within his brief reign, he subjugated nearly the whole sub-continent. The Tughlaqs now controlled the Indus Valley, Ganga Plains as well as Deccan and the southernmost tip of India. It was extremely difficult to consolidate and manage such a vast Sultanate. This was worsened by the impractical and rash decisions of Muhammad-bin Tughlaq.
