Structural organisation of alimentary canal is such that digestion and absorption can easily occur. Intestinal modifications like villi increase surface area for absorption. Functions of intestine are not only limited to digestion and absorption. Fluid and electrolyte balance, immunity, harbouring intestinal flora are certain other functions that are very relevant to our body.
