D flip-flop A D-type flip-flop is a clocked flip-flop which has two stable states. A D-type flip-flop operates with a delay in input by one clock cycle, i.e. (data at D is passed to Q when CLK is enabled.) Ring Counter In ring counter D flip-flop is cascaded such that the output 𝑄𝑛 is applied to the next flip-flop and the output 𝑄0 is again fed back to the first flip-flop. Johnson (Twisted Ring) Counter In twisted ring counter D flip-flop is cascaded such that the output 𝑄𝑛 is applied to the next flip-flop and the output 𝑄0 ̅̅̅̅ is fed back to the first flip-flop.
