SSC Stenographer C & D Syllabus

The authoritative body of the Staff Selection Commission has set a specific syllabus for the exam of Stenographer C & D Grade. Below is the syllabus for Computer Based Examination:

Syllabus for Computer Based Mode Examination

  1. General intelligence and reasoning It would contain both vocal and nonverbal questioning. Analogies, similarities and differences, problem-solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, and other topics will be covered on the test. The candidate’s ability to deal with abstract ideas and symbols, as well as arithmetical computation and other analytical functions, will be assessed through a series of questions. 
  2. General awareness – The questions will be meant to assess the candidates’ overall awareness of the environment and how it applies to society. In addition, questions will be prepared to analyse an educated person’s comprehension of current events and other concerns of everyday observation and experience in their scientific elements. The test will feature questions about India and its neighbours, including economy, sports, culture, history, geography, general politics, the Indian Constitution, and scientific research. These questions will be of such a type that no expertise from any discipline will be required. 
  3.  General Intelligence & Reasoning/ General Awareness Paper – There will be no Maps/ Graphs/ Diagrams/ Statistical Data component in this paper for VH applicants with a visual disability of 40% or more.
  4. English Language & Comprehension – Candidates’ understanding of the English language, including vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, and correct usage, as well as their writing abilities, would be assessed.
  5. Skill Test in Stenograph-

A. Candidates who have been shortlisted in the Computer Based Examination will be required to take the Stenography Skill Test. For the post of Stenographer Grade “C,” candidates will be given one 10-minute dictation in English or Hindi (as indicated on the online Application Form) at a speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m.) and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade “D.” The candidates will be giving the typing test on the computer. B. Candidates who choose to take the stenography test in Hindi would be expected to study English stenography and vice versa after their employment. If they fail to do so, hiring departments will not clear the probation. Regardless of the candidate’s medium of Skill Test during the test, candidates must work as English/ Hindi stenographers as per the User Office’s functional requirements.

C. Skill tests will take place either at the regional offices of the commission or at other centres as per the decision of the commission.

D. Candidates invited to the Skill Test will get proper instructions regarding the Skill Test from the Commission’s concerned Regional Offices if any.
