In the current times, several challenges and issues can be observed in the Indian education system. These challenges and issues need to be resolved to provide better and improved education to children. The children must be provided with proper education to ensure a sustainable future for the country. After independence, till now a lot has changed within the Indian education system. However, some problems and loopholes have remained in the overall education system which needs to be resolved. It can be observed that in terms of education India stands second to last among 50 countries.  Throughout the article, the current situation of the Indian education system will be discussed. In this context, the challenges in the present education system and the solutions to them will also be analysed.

The Current Situation in the Indian Education System

India holds a crucial place in the education system throughout the world. India has around 1.5 million schools in which 260 million students are enrolled. Further, the country has around 35,539 colleges under 751 universities. Hence it can be easily said that one of the biggest and most advanced frameworks of education is present in India. However, there is huge potential for improvement in the Indian education framework. It can be said that the Indian education system may go through significant improvement in the coming years. Currently, the education market in India is esteemed to be US$ 100 billion and is thought to grow up to US$180 billion by 2020. The overall sum of FDI or Foreign direct investment into the education sector was US$ 1.67 billion from April 2000 to December 2017. The training and education sector has seen some significant improvements and speculations in the past. These have been outlined in the following.

  • Teacher-student ratio: It can be observed that the students who seek proper education are much more than available teachers and faculty. Hence, properly qualified teachers need to be hired so that they can impart knowledge for the country’s betterment. 

Solutions to the Problems in India’s Current Education System

  • Educational quality: The type of education provided in the urban areas and the type of education provided in the rural areas are highly different. Proper steps need to be taken to provide a standardised form of education in the rural as well as the urban areas for the overall development of education throughout India.
  • Innovations needed: Currently India is incorporating digital education. This will also help in improving the student’s innovative minds as well as the mind of the country’s youth. 
  • Making education affordable for everyone: In India the Government educational institutions are affordable. However, they lack in terms of quality and infrastructure. The Government must work towards improving the infrastructure of the educational institutions as well make them affordable to all types of students.
