Hot Springs in the state of Bihar

RAJGIR

  1. There is a pink-hued temple called Lakshmi Narayan Temple with hot springs in its place. 
  2. During the Gautam Buddha period, these places used to be Buddhist monastery sites.
  3. At the foot of the hills of Vaibhava, there are a total of 22 hot springs.
  4. The hottest spring is Brahmakund, with the highest temperature around 45 degrees Celsius. 
  5. Major hot springs: Satdhara Kund, Surya Kund, Makhdum Kund, Brahma Kund, and Nanak Kund

MUNGER

  1. Sita Kund is 6km east to Munger and has its reference in Ramayana. 
  2. Major Hot Springs: Lakshman Kund, Rameshwar Kund, Gaumukh Kund, Sita Kund, and Rishi Kund
  3. These hot springs are enclosed reservoirs and are visited by Pilgrims.
  4. Rishi Kund is 9km south of Sita Kund. It is in the valley between the ridges of Kharagpur hills.
  5. It is 3 km from Rishi Kund and is much cooler in comparison to Rishi Kund. It emerges at the foot of Bhadauria Hill.
  6. Rameshwar Kund is at the northwest side corner of Kharagpur Lake.
  7. The Lakshmi kund is near Panchmukhi waterfall in Karmantari Village. 

Waterfalls in the state of Bihar

A waterfall is a point of stream or river from where the waterfall is vertically down or is a steep drop. 

In the state of Bihar, these waterfalls are closely related to religious sentiments both for Hindus and Buddhists. 

KALKOT WATERFALL

  1. It is located at a place which is 33km from Nawada.
  2. Here the waterfalls from a height of around 160 feet. 
  3. As per Hindu mythology, King Treta Yug was cursed here and had to take the shape of Python and live in the fall. When the Pandavas, as per Mahabharata, visited the fall, King Treta Yug got rid of his curse. So as per the mythology, whoever takes a bath in this Bihar waterfall never gets incarnated into a snake. 

KARKAT WATERFALL

  1. This fall is near the Kaimur Hills, which is situated in the Kaimur district in the state of Bihar.
  2. This place is a scenic beauty with water cascades.
  3. Also, it is famous for swimming, fishing, and boating.
  4. Near this Karkat waterfall, there is a wildlife sanctuary named Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary.

TELHAR WATERFALL

  1. This falls is situated in Kaimur District near BT road in the state of Bihar.
  2. Here the water falls from a very great height into a deep pool. So it is believed that due to this distance, current flows under the pool. Here swimming and bathing are prohibited. 

MANJHAR KUND WATERFALL

  1. It is one of the finest falls in India. 
  2. It is located in the state near Sasaram in Rohtas District.
  3. Here also, the water cascades of the waterfall are very strong, and it produces electricity of around a hundred megawatts. 
  4. This Bihar waterfall is famous for its fair named “Raksha Bandhan,” which is organised every year. It is celebrated with great splendour and pomp. 

DHUA KUND WATERFALL

  1. It is also situated in the city of Sasaram.
  2. It is used to produce hydroelectricity.
  3. Every year here, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated as a big great pompous fair.
