What Is A Wireless Connection?

These days, hardly there's anyone who doesn't use the internet connection these days in their daily life. The Internet has become an essential part of our life because everything has gone online. From food to friends or education to entertainment, everything is present on the Internet.

It has become all the more important to be socially active on social media platforms these days because it has become the platform for all modes of communication. People use social media to communicate, exchange business ideas, promote their business or talent, and share recipes of different cuisines, share different stories or simply just for posting their pictures.

Wifi Connections

The most famous internet connection is a Wi-Fi connection. A Wi-Fi connection is a type of wireless connection that provides an Internet connection to a large group of people at a faster rate and a fixed monthly or annual rental plan. It is a type of wireless internet connection plan.

  • The Wi-Fi connection has gained importance these days because, in every house, people are working from their place itself and require the internet connection for the full day. Wi-Fi plan is a perfect option as it’s cheap as well as the best wireless internet connection plan available.

What is a wireless connection?

A wireless connection or Wi-Fi is a type of computer network system that uses the wireless data connection modes between the network nodes present.

It is a very convenient method of the network because with the help of wireless network connections, schools, homes, business places, and every other place can get a connection installed and avoid the usage of network cables in the place which is not only space taking but costly at the same time.

The telecommunication companies that provide the facility of using wifi have their admin networks installed through which they run their connections to the various houses and let people use WI-FI at a fast rate. The telecommunication companies use radio communication for processing the same. The implementation, as well as the installation of the wireless network, takes place at the OSI model network structure’s Physical level.

Examples of wireless networks are cell phone networks, wireless local area networks, satellite communication networks, wireless sensor networks and terrestrial microwave networks.

History of wireless networks

The history of wireless networks or Wi-Fi goes back to the year 1969, when it was first developed by a brand named Alohanet. It was developed by a team of highly motivated individuals at the University of Hawaii, but the invention and development of the WI-FI network became operational in 1971 June. The first commercial WI-FI network to be used was developed by NCR in 1986. The brand name of the product was WAVELAND

The landmarks observed in the development of WI-FI are as follows :

  1. 1973 – ETHERNET 802.3 was developed

  2. 1991 – 2 G Network of the phone was developed

  3. 1997, June – Wi-FI protocol was developed

The advances made in the study of the MOS Transistor, also known as MOSFET, have made it easier for wireless technology networks. The wide usage of Radio  Frequency CMOS, Lateral diffused CMOS and power MOSFET devices has led to the development and expansion of digital wireless networks going in full swing in the 1990s. The usage of EDHOLM’s Law and the usage of MOSFET technology in the wireless networks industry led to the usage of wireless networks in the majority of electronic items. It also led to the establishment of networks of bandwidth like 2G, 3G, 4G etc.

Types of Wireless Networks

Several types of Wireless Networks are also known. Example:

Wireless PAN, also known as Wireless Personal Area Network, is used as a network connection in smaller areas of a small radius. For example, the blue tooth that we use in our daily life comes under the category of Wireless PAN as it connects people within a short area.

  1. Wireless LAN

LAN stands for Local Area Network. This type of LAN is present in an area of a small radius that helps in linking one or more than one type of device using a wireless connection, generally having a common access point.

A common example of a network that used Wire technology and was famous in the 1960s is Integrated Digital Network Systems, or it’s also known as IDSN. The circuit-switched telephone network that uses copper wires as digital lines and helps in the transmission of data, as well as voice over a digital line, is known as IDSN.

This technology has been replaced by broadband and WI-Fi these days, but still, It is kept as a backup plan in many telecommunication companies for emergencies.

Uses of Wireless Technologies

The uses of wireless technologies are very diverse. It is used in cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, radio satellites and intercontinental networks to communicate all across the world. The radio satellites help the police to carry out an investigation and in finding the culprit by tracing his location with the help of these radio satellites.

Conclusion

Wireless technologies have changed the way of communication for people all around the world. It has been possible with the help of wireless networks that people are able to use cell phones, smartphones and laptops easily. Wireless Networks have enabled the usage of information technology smartly and effectively.
