INTRODUCTION It provided the system of Panchayat Raj at three levels as the village, block and district levels.
GRAM PANCHAYAT - A Gram Panchayat is an administrative unit for every village. . Wards are territorial constituencies of the Gram Panchayat.
GRAM SABHA Gram Sabha is a general body for every village consisting of all the people, who are registered voters of the village. . The Panchayati Raj Act, 1993 has given special powers to the Gram Sabha.
FUNCTIONS OF THE GRAM SABHA & GRAM PANCHAYAT Functions of the Gram Sabha and Gram Panchayat are as follows: (1) The annexure 7 gives the list of functions which have been assigned to Gram Sabhas under the amended act 1) Almost all functions of Gram Panchavat have been assigned to Gram Sabha (1 ) It is clear that the functions assigned to the Gram Sabha are much larger in scope and significance than those given to the Gram Panchayats.
JANPAD PANCHAYAT - As each district is divided into blocks, there is a Janpad Panchayat for each block.
ZILA PANCHAYAT . It is constituted for a district i.e. Zila.
