Citizen of India 2. Age of 35 yrs. 3. Should be qualified to be elected as a member of Lok Sabha 4. Should not hold any office of profit Procedure of Election of President: 1. Elected by an Electoral College- elected members of both houses of Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies 2. Nominated members of Parliament and members of State Legislative Council are not a part of electoral college. 3. Held by a single transferable vote system of proportional representation. Voting is done by secret ballot
OATH:Takes an oath of office in the presence of the Chief Justice of India. TEBURE: Has a term f 5 yrs and is eligible for re- election. PREVILEGES: 1. Not answer to any court of law. 2. Neither be arrested nor any criminal proceedings 3. A prior notice of two months time is to be served before instituting a civil case against him
Functions and Powers of Pres nt: Executive powers Legislative powers Financial powers EXECUTIVE POwE R OF PRESIDENT Union govt communicate to him by the PM All official appointed by him, removed and recalled by him on the advice of Union Council of Ministers Supreme Commander of the armed forces. All laws enacted by the Union Parliament are enforced by him. Declare war and make peace. Appoints the Governors of the Union Territories. Appoints the Chief Judges and other judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts. Appoints Prime Minister and he appoints other ministers on the advice of the Prime Minister. Conduct the country's foreign affairs.
LEGISLATIVE POWER OF PRESIDENT: 1. He summons the Parliament at least twice a year and the gap between 2 sessions cannot be more than 6 months. 2. Dissolve the Lok Sabha even after expiry of its term on the recommendation of the PM. 3. Can call a joint sitting of the two houses of Parliament n ca of disagreement between Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha on a non money bill. 4. Every bill passed by Parliament is sent to the President for his ascent FINANCIAL POWER OF PRESIDENT 1. All money bill are introduced in Lok Sabha with the approval of President. 2. Control over Contingency Fund Of India. 3. Annual budget & railway budget are introduced in Lok Sabha on the recommendation of the President 4. Appoints Finance Commission after every 5 yrs
