Terrorism as competitive industry: 1. Globalisation: It aided the terrorist activities due to flexibility in movement of people across borders. 2. Nexus of criminals and terrorists: Terrorists' need finances for their activities. So, criminals colluding with terrorists is making it a competitive industry. For example, counterfeiting, credit card information theft, smuggling, drug trafficking and child trafficking. 3. Cyber platforms: Due to Internet, all terrorist activities like money transfer, recruitment, propaganda became easier without physical movement of people. 4. Regional conflicts: These are benefiting the terrorism. For example sunni-shia rivalry in west Asia, India-Pakistan rivalry in South Asia. 5. Control over local resources: For example oil wells in Levant region, taxation on locals. However, efforts are made by global actors to curb the expansion of terrorist networks. Information exchange, counter-terrorism military exercises, air strikes, demonetization, Cert-In like platforms and surgical strikes are pertinent in this context. The decline in ISIS hold of territory in levant region, decrease in cross-border terrorism after surgical strikes shows that terrorism can be curbed. It's emergence as competitive industry cannot be possible with state's will and international collaboration.
