  3. LINE BALANCING Line balancing aims at grouping the facilities or task in an effective way in order to minimise the unproductiveness of machine and manpower. Task are grouped so that there total time is preferably equal to or lesser than time available at each work station, this reduces the idle time. Advantages of line balancing: I. Uniform production rate 2. Less material handling 3. Less work in-process inventory 4. Effective utilisation of manpower and machine 5. Easy production control 6. Less congestion


  4. DEFINITIONS I. Work Element: Every job is completed by a set of operations and each operation which is to be performed on the work piece is known as work element or element. 2. Task Time (Ti):Standard time to complete one elemental task. 3. Work Station It is a specific location on assembly line where given amount of work is performed.

Total Work Content (TWC): This is equal to the sum of processing time of each operation that is to be performed on the job Cycle Time : It is the amount of time for which a unit that is assembled is available to any operator on the assembly line. This is the time between 2 successive product coming out of assembly line and the minimum possible cycle time is equal to the largest value of station time. 6.
