JIGYASA' programme "Jigyasa", a student-scientist connect programme was officially launched in the national capital recently Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), has joined hands with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to implement fhis programme. The focus: Connecting school students and scientists so as to extend student's classroom learning with that of a very well planned research laboratory based learning. Innovate in India', or 'i3 India has been an active player in the pharmaceutical industry and has contributed globally towards making life saving drugs and low cost pharmaceutical products accessible and affordable for those in need. Be it the Rotavirus vaccine, heart valve prosthesis or affordable insulin, India has been a forerunner in these and many more. Despite these advances, the Indian biopharmaceutical industry is still 10-15 years behind their counterparts in the developed countries and faces stiff competition from China, Korea and others. The lacuna primarily exists due to disconnected centres of excellence, less focus on translational research (application of basic sciences) and staggered funding. 3, a flagship programme of the Gol in collaboration with the World Bank, is committed to addressing these gaps with a Mission to make India a hub for design and development of novel, affordable and effective biopharmaceutical products and solutions. The Mission will be implemented by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), a Public Sector Undertaking of the Department of Biotechnology, MoS&T.

  3. VAJRA The Union Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India has initiated a novel scheme VAJRA (Visiting Advanced Joint Research), Faculty Scheme of Science & Engineering Research Board, that allows foreign-based scientists to contribute to the Indian growth by working part-time in Indian laboratories and academic institutions. The portal VAJRA will not only help India to boost the global ranking of Indian institutions but also draw the best of research personnel to the country

  4. (DDUGKY) The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) announced the Deen Dayal Upadhy ya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) on Antyodaya Diwas, 25th September 2014. DDU-GKY is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) tasked with the dual objectives of adding diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and cater to the career aspirations of rural youth. DDU-GKY is uniquely focused on rural youth between the ages of 15 and 35 years from poor families. As a part of the Skill India campaign, it plays an instrumental role in supporting the social and economic programs of the government like the Make In India, Digital India, Smart Cities and Start-Up India, Stand-Up India campaigns.

SVAROP' The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India has constituted a National Steering Committee to initiate a National Programme on "Scientific Validation and Research on Panchgavya" (SVAROP). This multi-disciplinary programme will cover the following five thematic areas: Scientific validation of Uniqueness of Indian cows -Panchagavya for medicine and health Panchagavya and its products for agriculture applications Panchagavya for food nutrition Panchagavya based utility products.

  6. SAMPADA' A Central Sector Scheme is 100% funded by the Union Govt and implemented by the Central Govt machinery. These schemes are mainly formulated on subjects from the Union List. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval for re-structuring the schemes of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) under new Central Sector Scheme SAMPADA (Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro- Processing Clusters) for the period 2016-20 coterminous with the 14th Finance Commission cycle. The objective of SAMPADA is to supplement agriculture, modernize processing and decrease agri-waste. SAMPADA is an umbrella scheme incorporating various ongoing schemes of the Ministry like Mega Food Parks, Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure, Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure, etc.

  7. Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) WIPO's TISC program provides innovators in developing countries with access to locally based, high quality technology information and related services, helping them to exploit their innovative potential and to create, protect, and manage their intellectual property (IP) rights, The Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM) is designated as the National Focal point for the TISC network in India. As the national focal point, CIPAM shall identify potential host institutions assess their capacities and support them in joining the TIsC project. CIPAM will also act as the main intermediary between WIPO and TISC host institutions and coordinate all the activities of the national TISC network. Over 500 TISCs operate worldwide and establishing TISC in India will give the host institutions access to the Global network.

  8. Disaster Information Volunteers (DIV) The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju has said that India must repare itself for moving towards Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and Disaster Risk eduction (DRR) from an approach of traditional Disaster Management. Shri Rijiju was inaugurating the 'India Disaster Response Summit', organised jointly by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Facebook, on how best to leverage social media platforms to prepare, respond and recover for, during and after a disaster. Shri Rijiju said that the partnership between the Indian Government and Facebook on d saster response is the first of its kind in the world. Introducing the Disaster Information Volunteers (DIV) programme, wherein a network of trained volunteers would provide supplemenfary information on disasters in their local communities to assist Government relief efforts through the Facebook Workplace latform, Facebook Head (Policy Programmes) for South Asia said they were aiming o empower communifies by building products thaf connect people and creafe e social impact. The programme will be piloted in two disaster prone states- Assam and Uttarakhand.

  9. SmartGram The SMARTGRAM initiative of Rashtrapati Bhavan was inaugurated for five villages of Haryana in 2016. It was recently approved to extend it to 100 villages in the vicinity of the initially selected five villages. A large number of projects have been undertaken in the initially selected five villages of Haryana under the SMARTGRAM initiative in the fields of agriculture, skill development, energy, education, heath, employment generation, developing entrepreneurship etc. These initiatives have generated a lot of enthusiasm in the nearby areas. Therefore, this initiative was extended to 95 more villages in the vicinity of the earlier selected five villages.
