DIFFUSION dye molecules Intermixing of particlese of two different types of matter on their own water molecules equilibrium Movement of molecules from a region of high concentration to the region of low concentration.
Rate of Diffusion solids liquids Gases
Diffusion in Solids Diffusion in solids is very very slow. People often think that it does not take place bt it does. Example-if we write something on blackboard and leave it uncleaned for considerable period of time (15-20 days) we will find it difficult to clean the board afterwards. Why??2?? Some of particles have diffused in the surface of blackboard.
Diffusion in Liquids Slower than gases but faster than solids. Becase liquid s have greater space and can move much faster than solids Example-spreading of ink in water, spreading of purple colour of potassium permanganate into water on its own.
Diffusion in Gases Fastest among all the three states. Because the particles move quickly as they have large space between them. Example- smell of perfume, smell of food, burning of incense stick.
Rate of diffusion is directly proportional to temperature. That is why hot food smell reaches us even when we are far away as compared to cold food
