Break-away Point  Point where root locus leaves the real axis is called break-away point (i.e. at some point between two open loop poles on real axis). Break-in Point  Point where root locus returns the real axis is called break-in point (i.e. at some point between two open loop zeros on real axis). To calculate Break-away/Break-in Point Break-away point = point of maxima for k Break-in point = point of minima for k GATE 2003- 2 Marks (Question)
