This one is a little tricky to explain. So do not hesitate to ask doubt in case you do not understand anything. Let us first get the numbers in a race of equal length. We have most of the data for 500m race. We know that B beats C by 50m in a 1000m race. So B will beat C by 25 m in a 500m race. Let us now get where B and C will be when A has finished the race. We know that B will be at 450m. So where will C be when B is at 450m, if C was at 475m, when B was at 500m? C will be at 427.5m. So now we have A-500m, B-450m, C-427.5m. A beats C by 29secs. So C needs 29 secs to cover (500-427.5)m = 72.5m. So speed of C is (72.5/29) = 2.5m/s. We now need speed of B. B covers 500m in the time it takes C to cover 475m.C does this in (475/2.5) = 190secs. So speed of b is (500/190) = 2.63m/s. So time taken to cover 2.7km is (2700/2.63) = 1026secs = 17.1 mins.

Oh!!! I apologize for the error! The answer for Question 3 in the Test Your Grasp section is 17.1 mins and not 60 mins. Sorry for the confusion.
