QUESTIONS Ques 1. The employer decreases the number of his employees in the ratio 10:9 and increases their wages in the ratio 11:12. What is the ratio of his two expenditures? Sol. Required ratio = 10 x11 : 9 x12-110 : 108-55 : 54 Ans { using compounded ratio formula ) Ques 2. Two numbers are in the ratio 1 :2. If 7 is added to both the numbers, their ratio changes to 3:5. Find the greatest number. Sol. Let the numbers be 1x & 2x according to question-=s 1x+73 2x+7 5 3(2x + 7) = 5(1x + 7) - 6 + 21 = 5x + 35 x=14 greater no. = 2x = 2 14 = 28 Ans

16 Ques 3. The area of a square isof the area of circle. Find the ratio of the side of the square to the diameter of the circle. Sol. Let side of square be 'a' & radius of circle be r' area of square a & area of circle Tr2 2 & area of circle-rr2 a 4 Now A.Ta Diameter = 2r =-= 2: 1 Ans Ques 4. The ratio of two terms is 5:8. On adding these terms we get 91. Find the difference between two terms Sol. Let the two terms be 5x & 8x 1st term = 5 x 7= 35 2nd term = 8 x 7 = 56 .: Difference = 56-35 = 21 Ans

Ques 5. Two numbers are respectively 20% and 50% more than the third number. Find ratio of two numbers. Sol Let third no. be x 20 100 50 100 2 6x 53 2 Ques 6. The two whole no.s whose sum is 72 cannot be in ratio b) 3:5 d) 4: 5 Sol 72

Ques 7. A sum of money is to be distributed among A, B, C, D in the proportion of 5:2:4:3. If C gets Rs. 1000 more than D, what is B's share? Let the shares of A, B, C and D be Rs. 5x, Rs. 2x, Rs. 4x and Rs. 3x respectively. Then, 4x -3x1000 x = 1000. B's share Rs. 2x -Rs. (2 x 1000)Rs. 2000. Sol. In a mixture 60 liters, the ratio of milk and water 2:1. If this ratio is to be 1:2, then Find the quantity of water to be further added Ques 8. Quantity of milk = 60 -= 401 New ratio 1:2 & Quantity of water = 60 = 201 Let quantity of water to be added-x .. milk : water = 40: 20 + x 20 + x = 80 x = 60 l Ans -=- 20+x 2

Ques 9. If ratio of x & y is 3: 2 then find the ratio of X x3 Sol y 2 Using componendo and dividendo formula =-=-=5: 1 Ans x-y 3-21

India is a democratic country where constitutionally the governance lies with the people's representatives.
The total footfall during election is very low ( approx 66%) and it does not showcase the actual majority of the nation. It is biased and inclined to a particular individual or family and not the system for which it was designed eg. the dominance of Nehru Gandhi family over Indian politics for decades.
Representative form of government was designed to avoid the accumulation of power in few hands to curb the autocratic attitude of the elected. However in 1976 Indira Gandhi declared emergency to bypass anti incumbency.
The concept of representation is diluted with the low involvement of people in the voting.
When a political party wins the election in the name of single Leader and not the party , it gives rise to populism . Modi's victory could also be seen as populist win. It has it own advantages and disadvantages. The leader represents the majority and the majoritarians start to dominate the governance. It creates a divide in the society and curbs the essence of Indian constitutional framework of ' government of the people by the people for the people'. Where the role of various organisations and media houses comes into picture to highlight the anti constitutional approach of the government.
In the representative form of government one cannot work only for the majority. After being elected as leader, he has to work for all the sections of the society without bias. Elected leader has to take all the sections of society together to create a progressive nation.
In India with time the people representation has changed to populism due to various social inequalities and sectarian divide.
Luring BPL votes by distributing alcohol, agrarian votes by subsidies and vote bank politics in name of religion, caste, region etc has diluted the true essence of representative form of government.
Maximum participation of citizens in the election and their fair votes can help to mark a balance between people representation and populism.

Nice points Swati, and it is good to mention the statistics as well. If you remember them during mains it will be very good. It will be good, if You can also suggest some measures on how to increase the electoral participation at the end.
