Ratio and Proportion made easy Lesson 2

Calculating value of Ratio Ratio can be calculated in 2 ways . In decimal terms e In percentage terms

In decimal terms Let us consider the below example A: B 1:4 In terms of decimal it is given by 14 0.25 We are simply dividing it

In percentage terms Let us consider the below example A:B=1:4 In terms of percentage it is given by: X 100-25% 4 We are simply multiplying the decimal terms by 100

Important properties of ratio Property 1 If we multiply all the terms of a ratio with the same number, then the ratio remains unaltered Example: A:B=2:3 A 2 2Xc 2X4 8 3 3Xc 3X4 12

Important properties of ratio Property 2 If we divide all the terms of a ratio with the same number, then the ratio remains unaltered Example: A:B=2:3 2

Important properties of ratio Property 3 Relation between 2 ratios A:B=2:3 B: C 4:7 What is A : B : C A: B2X4:3X4 8:12 B:C= Hence A : B : c 4X3: 7X3 - 8 : 12:21 12 21
