Batteries are two types Primary batteries and secondary batteries Primary batteries Not Reusable, Rechargeable, and reaction occurs in one reaction Eg: Dry cell Components - Zinc container act as anode and the cathode is carbon rod surrounded by powdered Mno2 and carbon. The space between the electrodes is filled by moist paste of NH4cl and Zncl2 Cell potential - 1.5 v Another example Mercury cell Components - zinc - Mercury amalgam as anode and a paste of Hgo and carbon as the cathode Cell potential - 1.35 v
