In this lesson we learn about the octate rule and it's exception. Octate rule says all the elements get 8 electrons in their outer most shell, for getting 8 electron it will lose, gain and share the electro to their respective elements. There are some exceptions to the octate rule (1) Electron deficient molecules or Hypovalent molecules, in which less than 8 electron in their outer most shell. (2) Expansion of octate rule or hypervalent molecules, in which more than 8 electron in their outer most shell.
