Tensile properties are obtained by applying uniaxial stress in opposite direction but that is not the case in compressive testing and shear testing. Compressive and shear testing is done to obtain the compressive and shear properties of the material. Compressive properties of concrete is to be satisfactory or else it might cause fatal accidents. Shear properties are considered in cases where torsion occurs like in the case of shafts of automobiles or machineries. These properties play an important role in determining the overall performance or overall efficiency when applied to a specific condition. The effect of creep and various stages of creep is also explained with the help of proper and neat sketches. The strain rate at primary stage creep is rapid but tends to be constant as it moves to secondary stage. At the third stage of creep there is a development of necking in material which results in the reduction of area of cross section. This thereby results in the increase of strain rate.
