To get cleared u r doubt please read full you r right that they have great energy difference but they are the alternate and fixed distant from nucleus example if u know first shell distance from nucleus is 53pico metre that shell contains orbital deep inside and as the radius increase the orbitals go on increase this means the elcrons holding capacity and for our convenience we joined the orbitals theoritically..... please comment or reply on my first answer Your brother.......

we can not find that through MOT. if added value of electrons are above 20 the energy distributions are distorted. inshort in jee syllabi we need only upto 20
