A - article used before consonant sounds Examples: a dog a building a country a professor a university Here University starts with vowel letter but it produces yoo sound so it's consonant. An- Article used before vowels sound Examples: an apple an umbrella an eye an hour Here an used before hour. When we pronounce hour (h silence) it sounds like a sound. So an article is used.
