  6. Historical Perspective conti... Mohammad Shafi produced the first land use study in the form of Land Utilization in Eastern Uttar Pradesh under the able guidance of Stamp. Weaver applied an objective criterion in the delineation of Crop Combinatioin in Middle West in 1954. It was 1964 when Coppock prepared the Agricultural Atlas of England, wales and Scotland. Kostrowicki, in 1964, published his leading essay Agriculural Typology of the World. The Agriculural Systems of the World: An Evolutionary Approach was established by D.B. Grigg in 1969. This book describes the chief characteristics of the major agricultural systems of the world and attempts some explanation of how they came into being. While describing and explaining the agricultural systems, Grigg followed 'Whittlesey's classification of world agriculture.

  7. In 1974 Jasbir Singh published An Agricultural Atlas of Haryana in which he probed the physical, economic and cultural variables as the bases of farming and identified some ecological problems arising out of the existing land use practices. Inspired by Shafi and Singh the younger generation of Indian geographers has been making useful contributions in the field of agricultural geography which vary from topical to regional and macro to micro leve.
