In this lesson I have discussed about Hershey and chase experiment conducted using bacteriophage. Now bacteriophage is virus that infects bacteria. They infected E coli bacteria with help of bacteriophage. They used radiolabbled sulphur and phosphorus to label protein and DNA respectively. After that they found that only radiolabbled phosphorus found in infected bacteria and there was no sulphar in bacteria. This proves that it was DNA. Which is transferred from virus to bacteria and it is the actual genetic material.
