VITAMINS B. ASHWIN
Introductions . Vitamine - Vital amine (amine is an organic base) . Vitamin-low molecular weight organic substances .Vitamin differs due to their chemical nature and function . Also classified on basis of solubility in water and fats . Fat Soluable: Vitamin A,D,E,and K found in food in association with lipid Water Soluable: Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C
Definition . A substance can be classified as vitamins if it satisfy the two criteria: 1. It must be vital, organic dietary substances which is neither fat, CHO,protein or mineral and is necessary in only very small amount to perform a specific metabolic function or to prevent an associated deficiency diseases and 2. It can not be manufactured by the body and therefore ,must be supplied by diet
Functions . Regulate Metabolism . Help to convert fats and CHO in to energy . Assist in forming bones and teeth If it is an Excess amount . Excess water soluble vitamins are excreted mainly in urine Excess of fat soluble vitamins will result in storage and this could be toxic
Fat Soluble Vitamins .Vitamin A . Vitamin D . Vitamin E .Vitamin K
Vitamin A . First Fat soluble vitamin discovered . Mainly found in animal food, as retinol . Plants provide this to animal in form of orange-yellow pigments called Carotenoids .Vitamin A also called "Retinol"
Function:s . Essential for normal vision because vita A occur in retina of eye Necessary for normal growth and development . Health of epithelial tissue . Immune response Haemopoesis- (Iron deficiency type anemia)
Growth -Retinoic Acid (play as harmone like function ,use for growth) . Energy Balance Central Nervous system . Gap Junctional Communication .Activity of carotenoids
Sources . Vit A resents in animal foods only . Animal Sources - Liver is rich source - Milk Ghee Curd -Egg Yolk Butter
