Introduction In accordance with a decision of the 22nd Session of the Conference of the Parties to the Climate Convention (COP22) in Marrakesh in November 2016, the successive climate summit (COP24) was held in Poland. As decided at COP 24, COP 25 will take place in Chile in November 2019. . Poland was selected to host this event within the framework of the Eastern European Group (EEG) Poland held the Presidency of the Climate Convention for the third time. .
The UNFCCC took place from 2-15 December 2018 in Katowice, Poland include 24th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP) 14th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP) 3rd session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA) The COP, CMP and CMA are the supreme decision-making bodies in relation to the implementation of the Convention, the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement, respectively
COP24 Friendly "COP 24 Friendly" is an initiative of the City of Katowice and local businesses to present COP participants with a unique and interesting gastronomic and shopping experience, as well as a hospitable atmosphere of the changing city of Katowice. . The objective of this initiative is to showcase the richness and uniqueness of the food, shopping and entertainment in the Silesian region.
Main Themes During COP24, the Polish Presidency planned to focus its attention on three key topics: 1. Technology To show that there are climate-friendly modern solutions. Such as electromobility allowing for sustainable urban development, clean air and an opportunity for modern jobs,
2. Human: Emphasizing the need to lead change together with people through the solidarity and fair transformation of regions and industrial sectors. 3. Nature: Including multifunctional and sustainable forest management as part of climate neutrality and the role of forests as greenhouse gas sinks, and support for a synergic view of the three UN key conventions: I. On Climate, Il. On Biodiversity and Il. On Desertification.
Key lnitiatives The COP 24 served by three declarations constituting an important contribution to the global climate protection policy. Each of the themes (technology, human, and nature) has been enriched with three perspectives, with a broader view that considers the importance of the following: 1. 2. The Silesian Ministerial Declaration "Forests for Climate" At COP24, the Ministerial Declaration was formally adopted to calling on the Parties to conserve and increase carbon stocks in greenhouse gas sinks and reservoirs by 2050 and indicating the key role of sinks in achieving the Paris Agreement objective.
