UPTET-2019 14 1 FRACTIONS (Part 3) -Piyush Goyal

Comparision of fraction If the denominator is same, then the greater the numerator greater the value of fraction. e.g. 2/3 > 1/3 .If the numerator is same, then the smaller the denominator greater the value of fraction. e.g. 2/4 > 2/5

TRICK .If the difference b/w the values of the numerator and the denominator is same, then the greater the denominator greater the value of the fraction. In this case 2-1-1 And 4-3 1 Hence as 3>1 3/4>1/2

Comparision of fraction when neithe the numerator nor the denominator is same 1) First make the denominator of all fraction same by multiplying them with a number. 2) This number is the LCM(lowest common multiple) of all the given denominators divided by respective denominator. 3) The numerators are also multiplied with the respective number. 4) Now you can compare the numerator to obtain the result.

Comparision of fraction when neithe the numerator nor the denominator is same Alternative method of arranging fractions quickly is to: 1) Roughly calculate the decimal values of fraction. 2) Then they can be compared using number line e.g.2/3 and 5/9 2/3 0.66 5/9 0.55 Hence 5/9 < 2/3
