अंटार्कटिका महाद्वीप का खोजकर्ता जेम्स कुक को माना जाता है क्योंकि पहला प्रयास उन्ही ने किया था। इस महाद्वीप की मुख्य भूमि की खोज करने वाला व्यक्ति रूसी शाही नौसेना का एक कप्तान वेलिंग शॉसेन  को माना जाता है। इस महाद्वीप को श्वेत महाद्वीप भी कहते हैं। James Cook, the explorer of the Antarctica continent, is considered as the first effort he had made. The person who searches for the mainland of this continent is considered as a captain of the Russian Royal Navy, Welling Shawsen. This continent is also called the White Continent.
